PORT TOWNSEND, Wash. (AP) — One of Washington’s newest ferries, the Chetzemoka (chet-za-moh-kah), will need to go into a shipyard drydock for repairs after only nine months in service.

The ferry was out of service for a day this week and returned with a temporary fix.

Ferry system spokeswoman Marta Coursey says the permanent repair awaits a part that may take a week or more to arrive from Wisconsin.

The Peninsula Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/oma6iE ) the problem is with a cooler that cycles fresh water through the ship’s generator.

The Chetzemoka went into service in November on the run between Port Townsend and Whidbey Island. It was the first of three new 64-car ferries. The Salish went into service in July on the route. The Kennewick should go into service this winter.
