CINCINNATI (AP) — San Diego right-hander Tim Stauffer tied a Padres record by giving up five homers to the Cincinnati Reds in the first three innings on Saturday night.

Woody Williams also gave up five homers for the Padres on July 13, 2001 in Houston.

Stauffer gave up three homers in his start last Monday against the Mets in New York, tying his career high. He had bigger trouble at Great American Ball Park, one of the majors’ most homer-friendly.

Joey Votto hit a solo homer and Miguel Cairo had a two-run shot in the first. Todd Frazier led off the second with a homer. Jay Bruce connected for two more runs in the third, and Ryan Hanigan’s three-run shot made it 9-0.

The five homers tied the Reds’ season high.
