HOUSTON (AP) — The message on Gray Maynard’s T-shirt said it all about his directive when he faces UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar in Houston on Oct. 8.

“Dethrone.”

Maynard (11-0-1) and Edgar (13-1-1) shared a podium at the Toyota Center on Tuesday to promote their third meeting, the featured bout of UFC 136. Maynard beat Edgar by decision in April 2008, and the two dueled to a draw on New Year’s Day, a match Maynard still thinks he won.

Also on the card, Jose Aldo (19-1) will face Kenny Florian (16-5) for Aldo’s featherweight belt. The 35-year-old Florian became the first UFC fighter to compete in four different weight classes when he beat Diego Nunes in his 145-pound debut in June.
