KARACHI, Pakistan (AP) — Authorities say gunmen have ambushed a police bus in the Pakistani city of Karachi, killing four officers.

The attack early Saturday capped a surge in violence in the city in recent days that has killed 60 people, many of them targeted because of their ethnic or political affiliations.

Police and army rangers brought in to quell the unrest have occasionally been targeted, but the ambush was unusually bloody.

Sindh province home minister Manzoor Wassan says the officers were traveling to a violence wracked part of the city when the bus was attacked. He said up to 40 other officers were wounded.
