Letter: Triple-A baseball is preferred

I support the Yakima Bears moving to Vancouver, but I support the return of Triple-A baseball to this area even more. We can’t forget the 108 years of successful Pacific Coast League baseball in Portland. It’s one thing to build a stadium but another to sweeten the deal with the term “multi-use.” We have enough youth soccer and baseball fields and the Rose Garden for concerts. Propstra Field used for youth baseball needs work, so renovate it and save millions of dollars. I don’t want to be taxed 20 years for 38 games a year. That’s 760 out of 7,200 days.

The question is not should we bring baseball to Vancouver? It is: Do we need this stadium? I think we should wait for the new Portland mayor to bring Triple-A back. The Beavers’ departure was not the residents’ choice. The politicians forced them to leave.

The Bears would provide a Band-Aid to our loss. Do you want a Band-Aid or a cure? Be patient and make the right choice because it could prevent Triple-A from coming back to the Portland/Vancouver area.
