ORANGE, Calif. (AP) — A 7-month-old baby boy who was tossed from the fourth floor of a hospital parking structure has died.

Police Sgt. Dan Adams said Wednesday that the boy died in the morning at the University of California, Irvine, Medical Center.

The boy’s mother, 31-year-old Sonia Hermosillo, has been charged with attempted murder and felony child abuse in the case.

Prosecutors say she took off a special helmet that her son wore for a medical condition and tossed him over the edge of the parking structure at Children’s Hospital of Orange County before validating her parking and driving away.

The boy’s father has said his wife suffers from post-partum depression and was distraught their son was disabled.
