DAEGU, South Korea (AP) — Dayron Robles of Cuba was disqualified for obstruction after finishing first in the 110-meter hurdles Monday at the world championships. Jason Richardson of the United States was declared the winner.
Robles was disqualified after third-place finisher Liu Xiang of China protested, saying the Cuban grabbed him going over the ninth hurdle.
The Cubans appealed the decision, but it was rejected by tack and field’s ruling body.
Richardson won in 13.16 seconds, followed by Liu in 13.27. Andy Turner of Britain had been fourth but was moved up to bronze with a time of 13.44.
