Gurode’s departure shows Garrett means business

IRVING, Texas (AP) — Andre Gurode has been cut by the Dallas Cowboys despite five straight trips to the Pro Bowl.

Those accolades meant little to Cowboys coach Jason Garrett, who released Gurode on Monday for a variety of reasons. Gurode’s age (32), salary, decision to have knee surgery so late in the offseason that it sidelined him for the start of training camp, and the performance by an undrafted, unproven second-year center during his absence cost him.

The move also proves Garrett means what he says, a message that equally hits veterans who may feel comfortable and up-and-comers trying to prove themselves.
