Bills not taking last preseason tuneup for granted

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Buffalo coach Chan Gailey might be pleased about the Bills’ promising preseason performance last weekend, but he’s not going overboard.

It’s not as if he was canceling practice, he says jokingly. To make clear how much more work needs to be done, Gailey intends to have his starters play a series or two on Thursday, when the Bills (1-2) close their preseason schedule hosting the Detroit Lions (3-0).

With the regular-season opener at Kansas City some 10 days away, Gailey’s taking nothing for granted despite a feel-good 35-32 overtime win over Jacksonville. The Ryan Fitzpatrick-led offense scored 17 points, and the starting defense allowed minus-1 yard through three possessions.
