Ore. reports first mosquitoes with West Nile virus

SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Health officials say the first mosquitoes of the season with West Nile virus have been detected in the Jordan Valley of Malheur County in Eastern Oregon.

Most people most people who get the virus either show no symptoms or have mild, flulike reactions. But a few cases result in more severe illness.

Public health officials say precautions against getting bitten include eliminating standing water, staying indoors at dawn and dusk, wearing long pants and shirts with sleeves, and following the directions for using repellents.
