Battle Ground — Battle Ground High School Assistant Principal Jann Byrd received the Transformer Award from the Lewis River Rotary Club on Aug. 16. Byrd was honored at the club’s lunch meeting for her service to the community, the school and its students — specifically her work in launching a Rotary-affiliated student service club, InterAct, on campus. So far, the club has raised $1,000 for a Shelter Box to serve a homeless family in the Haiti relief effort; $3,000 for the Life Straw water-purification program in Africa; and $2,000 to purchase animals such as pigs, chickens and llamas for poor residents of Peru. On campus, the club members purchased and planted trees. “My kids rock,” said Byrd.
