Meadow Homes — The Giving Closet, a charitable thrift store operated by the First Church of God, held its annual Back to School Bash on Aug. 21. Approximately 500 free backpacks were given away to children who’ll be headed back to school soon — along with free haircuts, lunch, face painting, snow cones and popcorn to all families who came out. Clients were also able to shop for clothes, food and housewares. The Giving Closet, 2804 N.E. 65th Ave., is open Wednesdays and Thursdays, but only to needy people who qualify.
