Clark hoop teams net victories

Women upset top-ranked Yakima Valley

The Clark College women’s basketball team handed NWAACC top-ranked Yakima Valley its first loss of the season, 83-75 on Saturday in Yakima.

Deborah Simmers scored 24 points and Chelsea Dyson had 23 points and seven rebounds for Clark (3-2).

Macy Mukensabl added 12 points, and Dani-Jo Trudeau had six points, five rebounds and a solid game on defense. Clark shot 86 percent from the free-throw line.

“The best part about the whole thing was played great team defense,” Clark coach Nancy Boone said.

Clark next plays at Walla Walla on Sunday.

Clark men 71, Iowa Central 53

The Penguins improved to 2-0 at the Emerson JUCO Challenge in Marshalltown, Iowa, with the victory Saturday.

Daniel Anderson led Clark (4-0) with 15 points, and Austin Bragg had 14. Dominique Giles had 10 points off the bench.

Clark concludes play with a game against Iowa Lakes on Sunday.
