ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) — Police cited a Port Orford man for poaching after a State Police fish and wildlife trooper spotted him hiking out of an area closed to deer hunting.

Police say the 45-year-old man was seen carrying freshly cut deer meat and deer antlers in a backpack in the area of southern Douglas County. He was cited Monday for unlawful take of blacktail deer and failure to validate big game tag.

The trooper seized the man’s rifle, deer meat and antlers.
