EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Leaders of the University of Oregon Senate are recommending that an aide to the school’s recently fired president be chosen as its interim chief.

The Eugene Register-Guard reports (http://bit.ly/twMDkr ) the Senate’s executive committee endorsed Robert Berdahl, the former dean of the UO’s College of Arts and Sciences. Berdahl was a UO history professor who also was a senior administrator at universities in Texas, California and Illinois. He has worked part-time as an adviser to ousted UO president Richard Lariviere and recently published an article taking swipes at the Oregon higher education board and Gov. John Kitzhaber.

Officials from the Board of Higher Education and the chancellor’s office were unavailable for comment. Lariviere was fired on Monday when board members said they lost trust and confidence in him.
