Talking Points: Bowl game matchups

What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

Some bowl game matchups we like …. just because:

• Gator Bowl — Urban Meyer’s former (Florida) and future (Ohio State) teams will meet in Jacksonville. The teams last played in the 2006 national championship game, which Florida won 41-14.

• Fight Hunger Bowl — Or as we’ll call it: the Fired Coaches Bowl. UCLA and Illinois will bring interim coaches into their matchup at San Francisco. Oh, and UCLA is 6-7.

• Ticket City Bowl — This is a not-ready-for-mainstream-ESPN game as Penn State will face BCS wannabe Houston on ESPNU.

Does someone have to die before universities do something about fans storming the field after football victories?

It was reported Sunday that at least 12 people were injured, including one who was airlifted to a hospital, in the chaos Saturday after Oklahoma State’s victory over Oklahoma.
