The family of Margaret McCluskey made a statement Friday thanking police, the medical examiner’s staff and first responders “for the concern and respect that they have extended to our family.”

McCluskey, a resident of downtown Vancouver’s Esther Short Commons apartment complex, was killed Dec. 2 when she was hit by a C-Tran bus in a crosswalk at the intersection of Eighth and Washington streets.

Police are continuing their investigation into the accident, which occurred on a sunny Friday morning.

The statement also said the family has been overwhelmed with support.

“Our mother loved this community and we can see the community loved her,” the family statement said.

Following McCluskey’s wishes, there will be no service. In lieu of cards and flowers, family members are asking people who knew her to sign the online guestbook for her obituary, which is scheduled to be published in Sunday’s Columbian at http://www.columbian.com/obits.
