Hotel workers’ union plans protest tonight

A labor union representing workers of the Hilton Vancouver Washington plans a candlelight vigil Tuesday evening.

Local 9 of Unite Here, a Portland-based affiliate of the AFL-CIO, will hold the event beginning at 5 p.m. in front of the hotel and City Hall, which are located adjacent to each other on the south side of Fifth Street between Columbia and Esther streets.

The union and Hilton management are in contract negotiations over wages and benefits. The union has targeted the city for protests because an arm of city government is the Hilton’s landlord.
