Hot-shooting North Texas downs New Orleans 78-47

DENTON, Texas (AP) — Tony Mitchell scored 15 points and North Texas shot 52.5 percent in a 78-47 victory over New Orleans on Tuesday night.

Chris Jones added 12 points and Alzee Williams 11 for the Mean Green (7-6), who have won five of six. Kedrick Hogans grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

Lovell Cook scored 16 points to pace the Privateers (9-5), whose six-game winning streak was snapped. Antonio Wertz added 15 points.

The Mean Green converted 31 of 59 shots to 18 of 52 (34.6 percent) for New Orleans.

The Mean Green trailed 15-14 midway through the first half. But North Texas turned the momentum when, leading 25-22, it used a 13-1 run over final 3:30 to forge a 38-23 lead at halftime. The Privateers never got within double figures the rest of the way.

New Orleans, which is transitioning to Division II, plays back-to-back with a game Wednesday night at Colorado.
