Stroman, No. 12 Miami women top VCU, 91-61

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — Morgan Stroman scored 23 points to lead No. 12 Miami to a 91-61 victory over Virginia Commonwealth in the championship game of the Miami Holiday Classic on Thursday night.

The Hurricanes (11-2) used their pressure defense to go on a 22-3 run during a 5:31 span in the first half. Miami scored 16 unanswered points in the spurt, capped by Stefanie Yderstrom’s jumper that gave the Hurricanes a 40-16 lead with 4:59 remaining.

Miami had 14 steals and scored 16 points off Virginia Commonwealth turnovers in the first half and led 49-30 at halftime.

Yderstrom finished with 20 points and Shenise Johnson had 12 points and 13 rebounds for the Hurricanes, who won their 32nd consecutive home game.

Courtney Hurt had 25 points and 16 rebounds for the Rams (8-4).
