KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) — Southern Oregon farmers and ranchers in the Klamath Basin say drought has cost them millions of dollars over the past couple of years.
The Herald and News reports that Klamath County agricultural commodities brought in $13.2 million less than they did in 2009, when prices were unusually low, and $72.8 million less than in 2008, when prices were good.
At Klamath Basin Equipment, a farm machinery and equipment dealer, managers cut employee hours and tried to cut costs with measures like conserving paper products.
The store ended the year with a 40 percent drop in business from 2009 and a 70 percent drop from 2008.
