MOUNT VERNON, Wash. (AP) — A woman and a man have been charged for what police believe were their roles in the slaying of a 48-year-old Burlington, Wash., woman whose body was found Feb. 3 in a vacant Mount Vernon home.
The Skagit Valley Herald reports 28-year-old Misty Ruiz of Mount Vernon was charged in Superior Court with first-degree murder in the death of Linda Taylor. Ruiz has been in the Skagit County Jail since she was found driving Taylor’s car.
A 25-year-old Burlington man, Adan Cantu, has been charged with first-degree rendering criminal assistance.
Court documents say Ruiz beat and choked Taylor in order to steal her car.
Court papers say a search of Ruiz’s cell phone showed text messages between Ruiz and Taylor, who knew each other.
