Vancouver police Sunday arrested a father and son after a fight in the Fruit Valley neighborhood. The incident started about 9:15 p.m.

Sgt. Kathy McNicholas said the father and son got into the fight with a homeowner at the corner of West 27th Street and Fruit Valley Road. The homeowner, who McNicholas said lives at 1927 W. 27th St., fired a shot from a handgun. He told police he was acting in self-defense.

Police were called and the father and son left the area.

They later were arrested at an apartment at 3011 Fruit Valley Road, McNicholas said. A third person at the apartment was taken into custody but later released.

The father, Ronald Wayne Dean, 44, was jailed on suspicion of fourth-degree assault, McNicholas said. He was being released Monday night, a jail spokesman said.

The son, Jesse Lee Dean, 22, was arrested for alleged criminal harassment and fourth-degree assault. He was not in custody Monday night.

As for the man who fired the gunshot, he was not arrested. Police will send their report to the Clark County Prosecutor’s Office, to determine whether a charge such as discharging a firearm within the city limits will be made, McNicholas said. It is illegal to discharge a gun in the city limits, McNicholas said.

About 9:15 p.m. Sunday a 911 dispatcher said there were about 12 police cars in the Fruit Valley neighborhood.

A nearby street was blocked for a time and medical personnel were on the scene. No one was believed to have been seriously injured.

“Alcohol was involved,” McNicholas said.
