ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A county commission has voted to begin negotiating with the Minnesota Vikings and the state over the possibility of building a new stadium for the team in a suburb northeast of Minneapolis.
The Ramsey County Board of Commissioners voted 6-1 on Tuesday to go ahead with further study of a proposed site in the city of Arden Hills. The site is a former Army ammunition plant and is about 10 miles from the team’s current stadium in downtown Minneapolis.
Commissioners who back the plan say the jobs and development a stadium would bring would outweigh the likely costs to county taxpayers. The commissioner who voted no says she didn’t have enough information about potential costs to support going forward.
Vikings officials say the site could work for a stadium.
