PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A man and woman are accused of stealing more than $5 million in merchandise over several years from Safeway stores in the Portland, Ore., area.

The Oregonian reports that 52-year-old Richard Lavern Remington and 32-year-old Angela Rose Evans were arrested Tuesday. A probable cause affidavit filed in court says that after Safeway officials began tracking the pair last fall, store surveillance cameras show Remington was involved in 103 thefts between Nov. 19 and Jan. 14. It says Evans was present 75 times.

The affidavit says Evans told police that they would go to several Safeways a day and shoplift a variety of items, including DVDs and CDs. Remington and Evans were arraigned Wednesday in Multnomah County Circuit Court on theft charges.
