PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) — New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson says there’s a chance that ace Johan Santana may recover from shoulder surgery in time to rejoin the team by late June.
Santana’s season was cut short in September, and this is the first time the left-hander has started a year on the disabled list.
Santana was in the Mets’ camp Thursday and said he’s optimistic that he’ll be able to return to his previous form. The two-time Cy Young winner says he hasn’t felt any pain since starting his light tossing rehab program.
