BIRMINGHAM, England (AP) — American Michael Rodgers ran a personal best to edge Kim Collins in the 60 meters at the Birmingham Indoors on Saturday.

Rodgers put on a burst after an average first 30 meters to cross in 6.50 seconds, equaling the best time in the world this year, set by Collins.

The St. Kitts & Nevis veteran finished in 6.53, with Jamaica’s Lerone Clarke another 0.01 further back in third.

Aries Merritt led a 1-2 U.S. finish in the men’s 60 hurdles, running the second-fastest time in the world this year (7.49) to overcome Jeff Porter. Fellow American David Payne, the Olympic silver medalist, came fifth.

Phillips Idowu thrilled the home fans by winning the men’s triple jump, beating Swedish rival Christian Olsson.
