College of Charleston defeats Samford 75-49

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Antwaine Wiggins scored 24 points and Andrew Goudelock added 23 to lead College of Charleston in a 75-49 rout of Samford on Monday night.

With the win the Cougars (22-7, 14-2 Southern Conference) clinched the league’s regular-season title and an automatic bid into the NIT Tournament. It was Charleston’s first regular-season conference title since 1999.

The Cougars, who won their seventh straight, scored 21 points off 16 turnovers, and outrebounded the Bulldogs 41-33.

Charleston shot 49.2 percent from the field (32 of 65) and led by as many as 30, 71-41, on James Carlton’s jumper with 2:12 to go.

Donavan Monroe added 11 points for the Cougars, who finished with six blocks.

Jeffrey Merritt scored 14 points to lead the Bulldogs (12-17, 4-13), who lost their fifth straight and fell to 0-11 against Charleston.
