NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Wil Peters had 14 points and eight rebounds to lead Tennessee State to a 57-52 victory over Southeast Missouri State on Thursday night.
The Tigers (13-15, 9-8 Ohio Valley Conference) led throughout, built a 34-14 halftime lead and then held on despite shooting 25 percent from the floor (7 of 28) in the second half.
The Redhawks (9-20, 6-11), which had won two straight games, outscored Tennessee State 38-23 in the second half, but couldn’t overcome the halftime deficit.
Southeast Missouri cut the score to 51-50 on Cameron Butler’s tip-in with 1:12 left, but Peters hit two free throws to extend the lead to 53-50.
