Tennessee State holds off SE Missouri 57-52

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Wil Peters had 14 points and eight rebounds to lead Tennessee State to a 57-52 victory over Southeast Missouri State on Thursday night.

The Tigers (13-15, 9-8 Ohio Valley Conference) led throughout, built a 34-14 halftime lead and then held on despite shooting 25 percent from the floor (7 of 28) in the second half.

The Redhawks (9-20, 6-11), which had won two straight games, outscored Tennessee State 38-23 in the second half, but couldn’t overcome the halftime deficit.

Southeast Missouri cut the score to 51-50 on Cameron Butler’s tip-in with 1:12 left, but Peters hit two free throws to extend the lead to 53-50.

Patrick Miller scored 11 points and Kenny Moore and Robert Covington added 10 points each for Tennessee State.

Lucas Nutt scored 15, Leon Powell had 14 and Marland Smith added 14 points for the Redhawks, who also got 10 rebounds from Marcus Brister.
