Wisconsin-Milwaukee beats Cleveland State 87-83

CLEVELAND, Ohio (AP) — Tony Meier scored 28 points to lead Milwaukee-Wisconsin past Cleveland State and into a tie for first place in the Horizon League on Thursday night.

The Panthers (17-12, 12-5), who entered one game behind the Vikings (12-7, 12-5), shot 57.4 percent from the field (27 of 47) and outrebounded Cleveland State 39-28.

Anthony Hill and Tone Boyle added 16 points each for Milwaukee, which won for the eighth time in nine games.

The Panthers used a 25-1 run to pull away and lead 61-42 on Meier’s jumper with 12:53 left.

The Vikings outscored Milwaukee 8-3 in the last 48 seconds but couldn’t overcome getting outscored 42-30 in the paint and shooting just 19 percent from 3-point range (4 of 21) in the game.

Cleveland State was led by Norris Cole with 27 points and Trevon Harmon with 22. Josh McCoy added 13 points and Jeremy Montgomery 12 for the Vikings.
