GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) — Right-hander Edinson Volquez will miss the Cincinnati Reds’ spring training opener because of visa problems.

Volquez was scheduled to start Sunday against the Cleveland Indians. He was scratched because he doesn’t yet have his work visa. Volquez is in the United States on a travel visa.

Manager Dusty Baker has already picked Volquez as his Opening Day starter. Volquez can continue to work out but can’t pitch in a game until he gets his work visa.

The Reds got ready for their exhibition schedule by playing an intrasquad game on Saturday. Left-hander Travis Wood, who is competing for one of the two spots in the rotation, allowed only one hit in two innings, a homer by Jonny Gomes.
