La Salle blows out Massachusetts 72-49

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Jerrell Williams scored 14 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to lead La Salle to a 72-49 win over Massachusetts on Sunday.

The Explorers (13-16, 5-9 Atlantic 10 Conference) shot 47.2 percent from the floor (17 of 36), including 7 of 15 from 3-point range (46.7 percent) in the opening half en route to a 48-25 halftime lead.

La Salle shot just 22.2 percent (8 of 36) in the second half, but used an 11-0 run to extend its lead to 71-40, the largest margin of the game.

Aaric Murray scored 16 points and Ruben Guillandeaux added 12 for the Explorers, who have won five of their last six meetings with UMass (15-12, 7-7).

Raphiael Putney led the Minutemen with nine points as UMass finished 17 of 57 from the field (29.8 percent), including 7 of 27 from 3-point range (25.9 percent).

Steve Weingarten grabbed 10 rebounds for La Salle, which posted a 57-33 rebounding edge.
