Western Michigan overwhelms Eastern Michigan 87-60

YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) — Flenard Whitfield scored 16 points and Matt Stainbrook added 15 to lead Western Michigan to an 87-60 victory over Eastern Michigan on Sunday.

Mike Douglas finished with 12 points and Demetrius Ward and Juwan Howard Jr., each had 11 for the Broncos (17-11, 9-5 Mid-American).

Derek Thompson led the Eagles (8-20, 4-10) with 20 points and Brandon Bowdry had 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Western Michigan shot 51.8 percent in the first half and pulled away for good with a 16-4 run that gave the Broncos a 44-20 halftime lead. Western Michigan led by at least 21 the rest of the way and pushed its lead to 73-33 with 9:18 remaining.

The Broncos finished 31 of 59 from the field (52.5 percent) and limited Eastern Michigan to 19-of-55 shooting (34.5 percent).
