McMINNVILLE, Ore. (AP) — The Yamhill County sheriff says rescuers have located and freed a family whose vehicle got stuck in deep snow in Oregon’s coastal mountain range.
Sheriff Jack Crabtree said Monday night that radio communication is difficult but the family was being brought out of the mountains.
The search began Monday afternoon after a man walked out to a spot where he could use his cell phone to call for help after trying unsuccessfully to free his four-wheel-drive vehicle. The unidentified man says he, his wife and their 10-month-old child drove into the mountains Sunday but got the vehicle stuck in the snow as night fell.
The sheriff described the area as about 1,500 feet in elevation, and 15 miles west of McMinnville. Crabtree says there is about four feet of snow there and more snow was falling Monday night.
