PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Reed College officials fear that a fictional university’s website, which appears to have copied content from Reed’s online home, could be a scam to fleece students of application fees.

The website for the so-called University of Redwood uses many of the same pictures and writing found on Reed’s website. Reed officials discovered the site in October and are still trying to put it out of business.

KGW-TV reported that mail sent to the University of Redwood’s address in Torrance, Calif., is forwarded to China.

Reed officials suspect a Chinese con artist may be posing as an admissions director to get money from students who wish to study in the United States.
