AP source: Edsall interviews for Maryland job

BALTIMORE (AP) — A person familiar with the hiring process says Maryland is interviewing Connecticut coach Randy Edsall to lead the Terrapins football program, but no hire has been made.

“The interview is still in progress,” the person told The Associated Press on Sunday on the condition of anonymity because the search is ongoing.

Edsall, who led Connecticut to a share of the Big East title and a Fiesta Bowl berth, is among those being considered to replace the fired Ralph Friedgen.

Before being hired, Edsall — or any candidate — first must get the approval of Maryland president Wallace Loh.

Edsall took the Huskies from Division I-AA into Division I-A. He has a 74-70 record after 12 seasons with UConn and has led his team to five bowls, most recently losing to Oklahoma on Saturday night in the Fiesta Bowl.
