Siena defeats Iona 73-67 for 1,000th all-time win

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Ryan Rossiter scored 26 points and grabbed 15 rebounds as Siena defeated Iona 73-67 on Monday night for the 1,000th victory in the program’s history.

The Saints (5-8, 2-1 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference), who have 814 losses overall, beat the Gaels (8-6, 2-1) for the 10th consecutive time and kept them from their 1,000th victory. Iona is 999-767 overall.

Rossiter, the nation’s No. 2 rebounder, hit a jumper to give Siena a 66-65 lead with 1:42 remaining. Scott Machado, who led Iona with 21 points, answered with a jumper 8 seconds later for a 67-66 Gaels lead.

Rossiter then hit a jumper and was fouled with 49 seconds left, and his free throw put the Saints ahead to stay, 69-67.

Machado, the nation’s assists leader with 8.3 per game, had seven assists for Iona and Michael Glover had 18 points and eight rebounds, ending his streak of eight straight double-doubles.
