PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The judge in the case of a teenage defendant accused of trying to detonate a bomb says one of his own relatives went to the Portland, Ore., tree-lighting ceremony that prosecutors allege Mohamed Mohamud targeted.
U.S. District Judge Garr King also told lawyers Wednesday at a status conference that three of his grandchildren went to middle school with Mohamud but didn’t know him.
None of the lawyers voiced any concern about King’s ability to try the case impartially.
King gave prosecutors until Monday to respond to a defense motion that asks the court to prevent U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder from making any more public comments on the case.
