PERTH, Australia (AP) — Lleyton Hewitt put on his best performance of the Hopman Cup, breezing past Andrey Golubev 6-3, 6-3 in just over an hour to give Australia a 1-0 lead over Kazakhstan.

Hewitt, who won his first singles match of the teams tournament against Belgium’s Ruben Bemelmans but lost the second against Novak Djokovic, hit a high percentage of first serves to register a 4-1 lead in Thursday’s opening set and was unchallenged from there.

Australia’s Alicia Molik will take on Sesil Karatantcheva in the women’s singles match later Thursday before the mixed doubles.

Serbia also faces Belgium later Thursday in the final match in Group A, with an intriguing clash between former No. 1s Ana Ivanovic and Justine Henin.
