Pianist Jim Fischer and soprano Inna Karakuts will share the stage at First Presbyterian Church in Vancouver.

The concert will feature light classics, sacred selections and popular Russian folk songs. The songs will be sung in Russian and English.

1. Author sheds light on local history

Author and naturalist Jack Nisbet will give a historical presentation in Vancouver.

Nisbet, who recently wrote “The Collector: David Douglas and the Natural History of the Pacific Northwest,” will discuss Scottish naturalist David Douglas’ time at Fort Vancouver in the mid-1800s.

2. Painters share spotlight at exhibit

A pair of painters take center stage throughout January at the Second Story Gallery in Camas. Work by Sally Lemon and Corinne McWilliams is on display through Jan. 28.

Lemon is showcasing watercolors inspired by places that hold special memories for her, while McWilliams is exhibiting paintings that present a contrast between light and color.

Hours: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

3. Photographer examines landscapes

Photographer Dale Strouse is displaying black-and-white photographs of urban landscapes throughout January at downtown Vancouver’s Angst Gallery.

The exhibit’s images reflect Strouse’s sense of irony, mystery and whimsy. It is on display through Jan. 29.

4. Production blends elements of Chinese performing arts

Shen Yun Performing Arts will present a blend of classical Chinese dance and music this weekend in Portland. The production brings together dancers, singers and musicians.
