LONG BEACH, Wash. (AP) — Long Beach Peninsula is a little cleaner thanks to volunteers who spent their weekend picking up trash on the southwestern Washington beach.
The Daily News in Longview says Saturday’s cleanup was organized by the “GrassRoots Garbage Gang. For the past nine years, the group has been picking up litter on the popular beach three times a year. Over the years, group members say, they’ve removed more than 100 tons of trash.
Event organizer Shelly Pollock says they especially look for plastic debris that can harm wildlife.
