BUIES CREEK, N.C. (AP) — Lorne Merthie scored a career-high 27 points to help Campbell beat Mercer 80-74 on Monday night.

Merthie scored nine points in the extra period for the Camels (9-6, 3-3 Atlantic Sun Conference), who scored the first six points of overtime to go ahead for good. Campbell led by as many as 15 points in regulation and 59-49 with 3:42 left before the Bears (4-12, 1-4) rallied, forcing overtime on a pair of free throws from Brian Mills with 0.1 second left.

But Merthie opened the overtime with a jumper just 9 seconds in, then Martell Jackson followed with a three-point play on the next possession.

Mercer got to within 75-74 on a 3-pointer from Brandon Moore with 22 seconds left, but Merthie hit four straight free throws to seal the win.

Jackson, Preston Dodson and Eric Griffin each added 10 points for Campbell.

Moore had 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead Mercer.
