LACROSSE

King’s Way Lacrosse — For boys who live in Clark County. Do not need to attend King’s Way Christian schools. Competitive high school boys teams play in the Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association in the spring. Youth teams (grades 5-8) play in Portland-area leagues. Southwest Washington Youth Lacrosse Club — Registration for the spring season now open. Boys teams in grades 3-4 ($120), grades 5-6 ($145) and grades 7-8 ($145). Registration is open to anyone. Beginners welcome. Early winter practices for registered players start in February 2011 and the season begins in early March 2011. Southwest Washington Lacrosse offers financial aid, and can loan free lacrosse gear to those who need it. Registration is also open for a new girls lacrosse program that begins in the spring. LITTLE LEAGUE

Little League’s main season runs March-July, including All-Star play. Some leagues offer fall ball programs. Little League is an all-volunteer program. In Washington, it is organized into 11 districts, two of which serve The Columbian’s readership area. Registration for the main spring-summer season is held in January and February. Boundary maps for the leagues in those districts are available on the district Web sites (listed below).

Here is some basic Little League information:

— Most leagues offer baseball and softball. Baseball for players ages 5-18 are based on the player’s age on April 30, 2011. Softball for girls ages 5-18 are based on player’s age on Dec. 31, 2010.

— Practices began in March and the Little League season runs through mid-June, followed by all-star competition.

— Little League is run by volunteers.

— Challenger Division. Battle Ground/Highlands, Columbia, and LaCamas are leagues that offer a Challenger Division for disabled players ages 20 and younger who live in southwest Washington.

SOFTBALL

VANCOUVER GIRLS SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION

Girls fastpitch softball — 2011 registration schedule: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15 and Saturday, Jan. 29, and 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 16. Registration takes place at the VGSA Complex in Salmon Creek (the playing fields). The VGSA complex is located at 800 NE 117th St., about a half-mile west of Klineline Pond).

IMPORTANT: In case of inclement weather, call VGSA’s voice mail at 360-699-0664 to confirm registration is happening. Bring each child’s birth certificate or ASA card. We will be verifying birthdates, and without proof your daughter(s) will not be permitted to register.
