IPFW tops Southern Illinois-Edwardsville 107-79

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — Frank Gaines scored 22 points Tuesday night to lead IPFW to a 107-79 nonconference victory over Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.

Gaines was one of five double-figure scorers for the Mastodons (11-5), who shot 57.4 percent (39 of 68). Ben Botts and Oleg Kovalov scored 16 apiece, Jeremy Mixon 13 and Michael Kibiloski 10. Zach Plackemeier had game highs of seven rebounds and seven assists.

Corey Wickware’s 15 points paced the Cougars (5-14). Cornelius Chatt added 12, Cody Rincker 11 and Kevin Stineman 10.

Southern Illinois-Edwardsville shot 53.3 percent (24 of 45) but was outrebounded 35-18, leading to 23 more shots for IPFW.

The Mastodons, who defeated the Cougars in both teams’ opener Nov. 12, is 7-1 at home.

Southern Illinois-Edwardsville trailed by 13 but trimmed it to 44-38 at intermission. But IPFW turned a 52-44 lead into 62-44 with a 10-0 run early in the second half and pulled away.
