Forecast calls for warmer temps, rain

The freezing rain that coated cars in sheets of ice and left patches of the slippery stuff on roads has passed.

A winter storm swept across the Vancouver-Portland metro area late Tuesday and brought with it a light dusting of snow and a heavy helping of freezing rain. It will be pushed aside today and replaced by regular ol’ rain.

The damage, though, is done. Icy roads triggered closures and delays at schools throughout Clark County.

Jeff Mize, a spokesman for Clark County’s Public Works Department, said shortly after 8 a.m. most area roads have thawed. The storm downed a few trees and some roads north of Washougal remain icy.

“It’s where you would expect,” Mize said of the icy patches.

The forecast for today is old hat for this time of year. Meteorologists predict a 48-degree high, wind gusts of up to 20 mph and a 90 percent chance of rain.
