Green leads Alabama past South Carolina 57-47

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — JaMychal Green scored 20 points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked three shots to lead Alabama to a 57-47 victory over South Carolina on Wednesday night.

Tony Mitchell had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Crimson Tide (10-6, 2-0 Southeastern Conference), who opened up 2-0 in conference play for the first time since 2002.

Green and Mitchell scored 17 of Alabama’s first 20 points. The duo ended up combining for 19 points in the first half for the Crimson Tide, who went into halftime with a 26-21 lead.

The closest South Carolina got in the second half was 33-30, but Alabama outscored the Gamecocks 11-3 to push the advantage to 44-33 — its largest lead of the game — on a free throw by Green with 7:47 left.

Malik Cooke finished with 11 points for South Carolina (10-5, 1-1), while Ramon Galloway and Bruce Ellington had 10 points each.
