SEATTLE (AP) — The King County sheriff’s office says a man suspected in a vicious assault in Shoreline gave the victim’s bloodstained bathrobe to his mother for Christmas.

The bathrobe was identified by the wife of Gordon McWhirter as the one he was wearing in the early morning hours of Dec. 17 when he heard a noise and apparently discovered someone trying to steal his car.

Fingerprints in the car led detectives to arrest a 21-year-old and to identify another 21-year-old suspect who remains at large.

Since the attack, the 55-year-old McWhirter has been in coma at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He apparently was beaten and run over.
