Former Oregon sheriff sworn in as US Marshal

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A former sheriff has been sworn in as the new U.S. Marshal for Oregon.

Former Lane County Sheriff Russel Burger is a 22-year law enforcement veteran who was nominated for marshal by President Barack Obama and confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

Burger started his career in 1988 in San Bernardino County, Calif., as a deputy sheriff and also spent nine years with the Oregon State Police.

According to a news release, Burger is the 37th U.S. Marshal for the District of Oregon.
