A Vancouver man was arrested Thursday after a chain of events led to the discovery that his home had been transformed into an indoor marijuana growing operation, according to the Clark-Skamania Drug Task Force.

Chang Jip Li, no age available, was taken into custody on suspicion of manufacturing marijuana after law enforcement officials were alerted to the operation earlier Thursday, said task force Cmdr. Mike Cooke.

Cooke said the investigation began after some Union High School students who lived nearby discovered that marijuana was being grown in the house and broke in to get some for themselves.

Officials were alerted after the teens returned to school reeking of marijuana and were confronted by a school resource officer, Cooke said. The status of those teens was not available Thursday night.

Task force members then staked out the house at 18305 N.E. 25th Circle, in the Fisher-Mill Plain Neighborhood, took Li into custody when he tried to leave and secured a warrant to search the residence, Cooke said.

Once inside the 2,469 square-foot house, officers found it was filled with about 600 marijuana plants, he said.

County property records show Li purchased the house in September 2010 for $349,900.
