Kennesaw State defeats Florida Gulf Coast 81-70

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Kelvin McConnell scored 22 points, hitting a career-high six 3-pointers, as Kennesaw State defeated Florida Gulf Coast 81-70 Friday night.

Markeith Cummings added 21 points and LaDaris Green had 14 points and 13 rebounds for the Owls (4-12, 2-4 Atlantic Sun Conference), who won their first road game of the season.

Kennesaw State trailed 48-46 with 17:02 to go when Spencer Dixon scored five of his 16 points for a 51-48 lead.

McConnell, who was 6 of 12 from long range, hit three 3-pointers to push the lead to 60-53 with 11:30 left. The Owls, who shot 50.9 percent from the field (29 of 57), then maintained a six-point cushion.

Since opening the season 2-0, including an 80-63 victory over Georgia Tech, Kennesaw State’s only other win was 78-71 over USC Upstate on Jan. 3.

Christophe Varidel scored 18 for Florida Gulf Coast (3-12, 0-6), which has lost five straight.
